JJ Redick is quickly establishing himself as a key figure for the Los Angeles Lakers. Since taking over in 2024, he has made a significant impact on the franchise. One of his biggest successes has been maximizing the potential of players like Austin Reaves. He has also helped guide the team to a 45–29 record, placing them fourth in the Western Conference. With his growing influence, some have started to question whether he might leave for another opportunity. However, Redick made his stance on the matter very clear.

ā€œI’m not moving my kids again…We’re in it for the long haul. I would love to be the Lakers’ coach for the next 15 to 20 years. If I’m not the Lakers coach, I’m in it for the long haul in L.A,ā€ confessed Redick on LA Times. These statements reassure Lakers fans, as his impact on the franchise was not expected by many, as he did not have extensive experience in the position.

That’s not to say Redick’s impact came as a complete surprise. Austin Reaves had high praise for him from the start. ā€œHe’s a basketball genius, I think, as everybody knows…He’s going to make a great coach…I just can’t wait to put our brains together and have a good year,ā€ Reaves said upon learning Redick would take over.

Austin Reaves’ comments show that Redick’s basketball mind was already respected across the NBA. And they were right, Redick has made his mark on the team in a short time.

ā€œHe bleeds the game and he breathes the game of basketball every single day…He’s one of those guys, kind of just like me. If we lose a game or we didn’t play up to par, there’s no such thing as sleeping at night. There’s no such thing as sleeping until the next game. …He’s a dickhead. And I love it,ā€ stated LeBron James on Pat McAfee Show.
