The Golden State Warriors wrapped up their NBA season earlier than they had hoped, but still exceeded expectations set at the start of the campaign. The midseason addition of Jimmy Butler sent shockwaves through the league, immediately repositioning the Warriors as serious contenders. Around that time, speculation intensified about a potential reunion with Kevin Durant.
The blockbuster trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers stunned the NBA world—but perhaps no one was more caught off guard than Warriors forward Draymond Green. His confusion, however, wasn’t due to Doncic’s destination—it was rooted in a rumor involving Durant. Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Green shared a humorous story about how Golden State owner Joe Lacob inadvertently fueled that speculation.
“When it first happened, we were at a Warriors charity poker tournament,” Green recalled. “I had just seen Joe Lacob 10 minutes before. Joe gets excited and says, ‘Draymond, I think we’re going to get Kevin Durant. It’s right there. It’s happening.’ I was hyped. Then Joe comes back two minutes later like, ‘Draymond! I wasn’t supposed to say anything. Don’t tell anyone.’ I told him, ‘Joe, I got you.’”
Green continued: “So I’m sitting down at the tournament, and about 15 minutes later, Steph [Curry] yells, ‘Draymond, did you see the trade?’ And I go, ‘It happened?’ Steph’s like, ‘Wait, who?’ I said, ‘Oh never mind, nobody. What happened?’ And he goes, ‘Luka got traded.’”

What’s next for Durant?
As the postseason rolls on, attention continues to focus on Kevin Durant and the growing uncertainty surrounding his future. Following a disappointing finish to the season, Durant’s departure from the Phoenix Suns appears increasingly likely.

One team reportedly emerging as a serious suitor is the San Antonio Spurs. The franchise is eager to pair Durant with rising star Victor Wembanyama, seeing the All-Star forward as the missing piece in their rebuild. While the Spurs may not be the frontrunners in the Durant sweepstakes, they are considered a legitimate landing spot.
According to John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM Phoenix, sources close to Durant have identified San Antonio as a strong contender. NBA front offices are now closely monitoring the situation as the trade market prepares to heat up.
Gambadoro also outlined a potential trade framework, reporting that the Spurs could offer Devin Vassell, Harrison Barnes, and multiple draft picks in exchange for Durant—highlighting San Antonio’s aggressive pursuit of elite talent ahead of the 2025 season.
