The Dallas Mavericks officially missed the playoffs after a disappointing loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, and the spotlight has turned to general manager Nico Harrison. His bold midseason decision, trading Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis, now appears to have backfired.

Without notifying those close to the organization, Harrison orchestrated the blockbuster deal that sent Doncic to Los Angeles. As a result, LeBron James and the Lakers are heading to the postseason, while the Mavericks are left scrambling to rebuild fan confidence ahead of next year.

Frustration reportedly reached the top levels of the organization, with team owner Patrick Dumond said to be displeased with Harrison’s move. The fallout has created uncertainty around the franchise’s direction, and Harrison’s comments during the team’s end-of-season press conference only added fuel to the fire.

When asked whether Doncic had the potential to be a championship-caliber player, Harrison gave a pointed response. ā€œThat’s kind of an unfair question. Luka is no longer on this team,ā€ he said. ā€œI was excited to build a championship team, and we’ll prove that next year.ā€
