One of the biggest talking points of the NBA offseason continues to be the uncertain future of Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Milwaukee Bucks star has sparked endless speculation with cryptic statements, fueling rumors of a potential departure. Among the teams reportedly keeping a close eye on the situation are the New York Knicks, who remain highly interested in the Greek forward.
According to the latest NBA trade rumors, the Eastern Conference contenders were prepared to pivot their strategy in case Antetokounmpo demanded a trade. The Knicks reportedly considered a four-year, $150 million contract extension for Mikal Bridges as part of that plan.
That deal came to fruition once speculation cooled around the possibility of Antetokounmpo requesting a move out of Milwaukee. The Knicks moved forward with the extension for Bridges, whom they acquired last summer in a blockbuster deal involving five first-round picks.
NBA insider Jake Weinbach reported that the four-year, $150 million extension for Bridges sends a clear signal: a trade for Antetokounmpo now appears increasingly unlikely. The Bucks seem committed to keeping their two-time MVP, and New York has shifted its focus toward long-term roster stability.

The Knicks now have all five starters under contract through at least the 2027 offseason. Karl-Anthony Towns holds a $61 million player option for that year, while Josh Hart has a $22.3 million team option.

Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby are also locked in through the 2027–28 season, each with player options for the final year of their respective deals. This core gives New York both consistency and flexibility as they look to remain contenders in the Eastern Conference.
As for Bridges, his extension makes him the longest-tenured Knicks under contract, with his deal running through 2029 and including a player option in the final year. It’s a strong statement from the Knicks, who are investing heavily in a group they believe can challenge for a title—even without Giannis.
