Sixers key player from last season reportedly returns to support Joel Embiid, Paul George

The Philadelphia 76ers are poised to make substantial roster adjustments ahead of the upcoming season. Last season’s underwhelming performance was a setback for both the organization and its passionate fan base, who had anticipated stellar showings from stars Joel Embiid and Paul George. Unfortunately, they faced multiple challenges: Embiid couldn’t play the entire season, and George’s performance fell short of expectations.

While the team’s key players were unable to showcase their full potential, other emerging talents stepped up during critical moments. Tyrese Maxey was a standout, delivering remarkable performances throughout the season. However, his outstanding efforts weren’t sufficient to propel the Sixers into the playoffs.

Unexpectedly, Kelly Oubre Jr. also made a notable impact in several games last season, attempting to bolster the team in Embiid’s absence and George‘s struggles. According to a report from ESPN’s Shams Charania, there’s promising news for the fans.

Oubre Jr.’s performance last season

In his second year with the Sixers, Oubre Jr. saw increased playing time, largely due to the team’s injuries during the regular season. Compared to his inaugural season in Philadelphia, Oubre Jr. showed improvement in his rebounding totals per game and his two-point shooting efficiency.

Last season, Oubre Jr. averaged 15.1 points, 1.8 assists, and boasted a solid 55% conversion rate on two-pointers, along with a 75% success rate from the free-throw line in 60 games played. These contributions were significant for the team, which reportedly is eager to have him return to the roster for the upcoming season.

Quentin Grimes reportedly on Sixers’ radar for a return

Following a trade from the Dallas Mavericks last season, Quentin Grimes spent the latter part of the regular season with the Sixers. According to Tony Jones from The Athletic, Grimes is reportedly nearing a deal to rejoin Philadelphia. The report indicates that discussions are ongoing between the team and Grimes’ representatives regarding his return.

“The Sixers have been in contact with Quentin Grimes and his camp, although the price may end up being steep. Grimes, 25, is seeking a contract averaging $25 million per season, league sources tell The Athletic, Jones wrote.
