The Golden State Warriors have struggled to stay consistent in these playoffs. They took the lead in Game 4. However, the Houston Rockets responded by outplaying them in the next two matchups. Stephen Curry could not stop the loss, but he still played a key role. He led the Warriors in scoring with 29 points. After the game, Stephen spoke about the mindset they need to overcome Rockets and reach the second round of the postseason.
“If you don’t show up with that appropriate mentality, then you got a long vacation ahead of you, so you don’t want to be the team that’s packing up. We’re packing for a week. Getting on this plane to go to Texas and hopefully go to Minnesota right after. That’s the approach. I know we’re all excited about the fact that we have life left even though these last two games haven’t gone our game,” stated Stephen Curry on 95.7 The Game.
One of Golden State’s biggest challenges this postseason is finding consistent production beyond Stephen Curry. The team depends heavily on Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green, which has hurt their flexibility during key stretches. As a result, they have struggled to maintain momentum.
Head coach Steve Kerr now faces pressure to adjust his rotations. He needs to create more energy on both ends of the floor. This is especially important against a physical Rockets squad that refuses to slow down. Golden State’s margin for error is extremely small.

Considering the latter, Kerr may be forced to shake up the roster. However, the lack of minutes for bench players could hurt their impact. Even so, the team needs someone to rise to the occasion. Brandin Podziemski, for example, must contribute defensively to support Draymond Green. All of this because Butler is contributing Curry to keep the offense alive. Golden State must restore their defensive identity if it wants to keep its championship hopes alive.

Do the Golden State Warriors have a realistic chance to win the 2025 NBA championship?
Even if the Warriors manage to beat the Rockets in Game 7, their path to the 2024–25 NBA championship looks bleak. Inconsistency continues to haunt Golden State, and that weakness could be exposed in a potential matchup with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Also, Minnesota’s physicality gives them a clear advantage, especially in a series where toughness and endurance matter most. On top of that, Anthony Edwards and Julius Randle bring a dynamic offensive punch that would test the Warriors on both ends of the floor.
Steve Kerr still faces critical challenges with his rotation. One major concern is his handling of bench minutes. The second unit lacks rhythm, and that is a problem now that the team needs dependable contributors in high-pressure moments. Kerr said he plans to adjust the lineup for Game 7, but his reserve players have not logged enough playoff minutes to deliver the kind of impact Golden State needs right now.
