The New York Knicks have been fairly better than most people expected them to be to start the season. While theyāre a ways away from being a legit contender to make the NBA Finals, they look poised to make their first playoff push in quite some time. And, even though some people were wary about his ability to lead the team, coach Tom Thibodeau has quickly given them a defensive identity and the desire to compete at the highest level every single night, even when the outcome isnāt great.
Then again, it seems like the Knicks want nothing to do with just moral victories at this point, and theyāre reportedly looking to make several moves to continue surrounding their young guns with more talent.
Thatās why they traded for former MVP Derrick Rose, who made his second debut with the franchise last night in their close loss to the Miami Heat. Following the game, coach Thibodeau revealed why they made a move so early in the season.
Tom Thibodeau Says Knicks Traded For Derrick Rose Because Heāll Accept Any Role
āItās obviously someone Iām familiar with. Weāve been through a lot of things together. But the biggest part is what I felt he could contribute to our team. Iāve always been partial to good players. If someone is a good player Iām interested. And I think heāll add a lot to our team. I know his character. I know the type of teammate he is,ā Thibodeau told Marc Berman of The New York Post.
āHeāll accept any role. You can start him, you can bring him off the bench, You can play him short minutes, long minutes. Heās telling me this is as healthy as heās been,ā he concluded.
Well, if someone can talk about Derrick Rose, thatās definitely coach Thibodeau. Heās been his boss in every single team heās coached thus far ā Chicago Bulls, Minnesota Timberwolves, and New York Knicks ā and itās clear that Rose is completely on board with his philosophy.
Now, the Knicks must still add a couple of more pieces to continue rounding up their roster but for the first time in nearly a decade, their fans finally have a team they can be proud of. Win or lose, theyāll compete.
