Aaron Rodgers is one of those excentric personalities within the NFL, maybe the most excentric one. He always makes his opinions known and that’s not always great for his teammates. In this case, he might’ve annoyed Pittsburgh Steelers‘ superstar T.J. Watt with comments made about the edge’s sack record.
Former Minnesota Viking Jared Allen stirred the pot saying he holds the single season sack record in the NFL, despite what the record books say. Officially, T.J. Watt shares the distinction with Michael Strahan with 22.5. Allen had 22 sacks in 2011, but he swears he had 23.
During his Hall of Fame induction, Allen once again referred to that. “The reality is I hold the single-season sack record,” Allen said. “Not T.J. Watt in 17 games, and not Michael Strahan. Facts are facts. It’s on film. I sacked Aaron Rodgers. They took it from me, called it a team sack.” By the way, Watt played 15 games the season where he got 22.5 sacks, so the 17 games argument is not really a thing.
“Hey Jared, it’s Aaron.” Rodgers claimed on a video showed during Allen’s induction. “You are the all-time single-season sack leader. I don’t care what the numbers say, because that phantom bull***t sack they took away from you would give you the record. So in my book, and probably in most Vikings fans books, you’re the all time single season sack leader my friend.” He all but dethroned his teammate.

Is Watt better than Allen?
Allen is now a Hall of Famer. How about Watt, though? In 12 years as a pro, Allen racked up huge numbers across the board, but Watt has already surpassed him in lots of stats, and is well on pace to overcome the deficit on the others. T.J. has played 8 years in the NFL.

NFL News: Aaron Rodgers sends clear message to those urging Steelers to part ways with Mike Tomlin
| Sacks | Interceptions | Forced Fumbles (Recovered) | DPOY | All Pro | Pro Bowl | |
| Allen | 136 | 6 | 32 (19) | 0 | 4 | 5 |
| Watt | 108 | 7 | 33 (12) | 1 | 6 | 7 |
As you can see, Watt is leading five of the seven key stats, only trailing in sacks and fumbles recovered. However, he’s played four less years. Watt needs to average 7.0 sacks per season for the next four years to equal Allen. As for the recovered fumbles, he is seven shy of tying him. And, despite what Rodgers say, Watt also holds the record for most sacks in a single season.
Watt just got paid to keep producing
It was a bit of a drama, but the Steelers ended up paying T.J. Watt a massive contract that reset the market. Watt is now tied to the black-and-gold after a three-year, $123 million extension.
This means, whether Rodgers want to admit it or not, a record-holder will play with him and will fully produce the goods, as he’s done pretty much his entire career. Watt is the second fastest player to ever reach 100 sacks, behind Reggie White, but he wants to keep racking up numbers. He has been a star ever since stepping foot in the NFL.
