Pierce was a linebacker at Paramount High School in Paramount, California, where he played his early years of football. He went on to play college football at the University of Arizona, but he was not selected during the 2001 NFL Draft due to his height, too short for a linebacker according to scouts (6-1).

Pierce was undrafted, but he signed with the Washington Redskins as a free agent. He played four seasons with the Redskins before signing with the New York Giants in 2005. He retired with the Giants in 2009.
