It seems like it was just yesterday when Andrew Luck announced that he was retiring from the NFL. "I've been stuck in this process. I haven't been able to live the life I want to live. It's taken the joy out of this game. The only way forward for me is to remove myself from football. This is not an easy decision. It's the hardest decision of my life. But it is the right decision for me," the Indianapolis Colts superstar said just a couple of days before the start of the season in one of the most shocking moves in football history.

Ever since, the Colts have leaned towards Jacoby Brisset and Phillip Rivers as their quarterbacks, but they couldn't get the job done. That's why team owner Jim Irsay recently claimed that he could still envision Andrew as their quarterback and would welcome him with open arms:

“It kind of stands where it stands: Andrew’s retired," Jim said. "He knows we would love to have him back. But only he can answer that question deep in his heart and his soul: ‘Hey, do I really want to come back and be a quarterback for the Colts again in the NFL?’ It’s easy for us. He knows how much we’d love to have him be our quarterback," Irsay told Mike Chappell of FOX 59.

Indianapolis Colts Owner Jim Irsay Says Andrew Luck Is Unlikely To Come Back From Retirement

Needless to say, those comments prompted and fueled countless rumors about a potential Andrew Luck comeback. He's been away from the game for a couple of years and could be back at full strength after multiple injuries. Sadly, however, that's not likely to happen, says Irsay:

"He’s (Luck) more retired now than he was a year and a half ago. He definitely is retired and there’s really no wiggle room or rumor or anything, as much as people would like to hear that. Believe me, I wish it was true and I was hiding some big announcement (…) but that’s just not the case, ” Irsay told Chris Widlic of CBS 4.

Even if Luck was able to come back to the team, he'd still need a lot of time to get back into game shape. Then again, he's so talented and his career was so short that a lot of people would love to just see him out there again. For now, we don't see that happening, tho.
