The upcoming NFL season could see the Miami Dolphins without one of their biggest stars. After several weeks of negotiations, Jalen Ramsey and the South Florida franchise may be heading in different directions, according to Dolphins General Manager Chris Grier.

In recent statements to the media, Grier broke the silence regarding the situation, clarifying that the cornerback had not directly requested a trade. Instead, he explained that the discussions had been ongoing for quite some time between both parties.

“After a couple weeks of discussions between ourselves internally and Jalen Ramsey, we’ve decided it was probably in the best interest of all parties to move forward,” Grier said.

“These decisions aren’t done quickly, and they’re not taken lightly. At the end of the day, Jalen did not ask for a trade… We just felt that, after numerous conversations and talking last week, [a trade] was in the best interest of the Miami Dolphins and Jalen Ramsey.”

Jalen Ramsey’s unique contract situation

The news of a potential trade sending Jalen Ramsey to another franchise, while confirmed by the GM as the result of weeks of internal discussions, still came as a surprise to many. One of the main reasons for the shock is the massive contract the star cornerback holds with the team led by Tua Tagovailoa.

The move by the Dolphins and the talented CB is unexpected, especially given that the 30-year-old player agreed to a three-year, $72.3 million contract extension just last September — a deal that made him the highest-paid player at his position in the league. Now, only a few months later, both parties believe that going their separate ways may be the best course of action.

Is another Dolphins star set to leave the team?

The news of a potential departure for Jalen Ramsey isn’t the only storyline surrounding the Dolphins at the moment. Another one of the team’s stars could also be on the move. After addressing Ramsey’s situation, GM Chris Grier broke his silence regarding the trade rumors involving Tyreek Hill.

“That is not anything that we’re pursuing,” the general manager Grier firmly stated to the press. “Who knows? If someone wants to come and give me two first-round picks, we’ll consider it.”

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his situation, Grier made sure to praise the work of the former Chiefs RB: Tyreek Hill has been in the building and working with new wide receivers coach Robert Prince about every other day early in the offseason. Hill has shown he wants to be in Miami.“
