With Stefon Diggs injured, Drake Maye is eager to receive an update on the wideout's status. The New England Patriots brought Diggs to be the best receiver on the team.

The New England Patriots were desperate to bring a household wide receiver to their roster. They did it when they signed Stefon Diggs. The only asterisk there is that Diggs is still recovering from an ACL injury from last season. Hence, quarterback Drake Maye doesn’t know if he will have the best wideout on the team available.

According to The Athletic’s Chad Graff, Diggs will “likely open camp by working on the side until he’s cleared from his injury. In spring practices, Diggs took some reps with the team, of course, in a limited capacity. Then, he was seen partying and doing everything but football during offseason.

It was so much so, the team even considered cutting him from the team. However, now it seems the team will monitor Diggs to see if he can start the season, or if he will be placed on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.

Maye really needs a wide receiver he can trust

The WR room of the 2024 Patriots left a lot to be desired. In fact, it was tight end Hunter Henry who led the team in receiving yards. Demario Douglas was the best wideout with 621. Following that, Kayshon Boutte (589), Kendrick Bourne (305), and Ja’Lynn Polk (87) were the others.

Somehow, someway, rookie quarterback Drake Maye was able to impress. Maye completed 66.6% of his passes, passed for 15 TDs and got 10 picks. But in the end, no one can blame him for the picks.

The Patriots really need a spark

By bringing new head coach Mike Vrabel, and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, the Patriots are trying to install back the culture that saw them win six NFL championships.

Now, they just need to exploit their roster. It may not look like the best roster possible, but still can take some steps in the right direction. Establishing Maye as their franchise quarterback should be their goal this season.
