In early April, Tua Tagovailoa learned that a key defensive player on his Miami Dolphins team had decided to step away from professional football. What has only recently come to light are the specific reasons that led this player to bring his NFL career to an end.
Terron Armstead entered the league in 2013 after being selected by the New Orleans Saints in the third round with the 75th overall pick, following his college football career at Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Twelve years later, the veteran offensive tackle has decided to bring his playing career to an end.
During a recent appearance on The Nightcap Show, Armstead revealed that a knee injury he suffered back in 2015 was one of the main reasons behind his decision to retire from the game for good.
âIâve been dealing with a knee since my third year in the league,â he said. âI didnât see a practice field at all, and not because I didnât want to or the Dolphins just wanted me to rest. Itâs like I literally couldnât walk. After a game on Sunday, I wouldnât be able to walk on my own, under my own power, until Wednesday, Thursday. So I was only able to play under the pain meds. I couldnât put any pressure on my knee, so it was like, I canât keep doing that to myself.â
The talented 33-year-old player finally added: âI just canât perform at the same level.â From now on, Mike McDaniel will face the challenge of replacing the veteran player ahead of the upcoming season.

What can we expect from the Dolphins this upcoming season?
The Miami Dolphins enter the upcoming season aiming to establish themselves as true contenders in a competitive AFC East. With division rivals like the Bills, Patriots, and Jets pushing hard, consistency will be key for Miami to keep pace and make a deep playoff run.
Tua Tagovailoa is expected to remain the starting quarterback, despite ongoing concerns about his concussion history. His health will be closely monitored, as his presence under center is crucial to the teamâs offensive rhythm and overall success.
Much of Miamiâs potential lies in the explosiveness of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, who remain two of the most dynamic receivers in the league. However, the uncertainty surrounding star cornerback Jalen Ramsey could impact the defense, leaving head coach Mike McDaniel with some big decisions ahead.
The first challenges for the Dolphins
With the primary goal of becoming a serious Super Bowl contender, Mike McDanielâs Dolphins will need to overcome these first five challenging hurdles and get the season off to a strong start:
- @ Indianapolis Colts, September 7th
- vs New England Patriots, September 14th
- @ Buffalo Bills, September 18th
- vs New York Jets, September 29th
- @ Carolina Panthers, October 5th
