The Terry McLaurin saga is never ending. The Washington Commanders are trying to negotiate a new deal with their best wide receiver. Jayden Daniels, as quarterback, needs to know if he will have his best weapon available for the NFL season, and the latest update on the situation is not one the signal-caller would like.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, McLaurin is borderline offended, it seems. He is “not happy with where things are with an extension,” Fowler said. He added that the team has “a couple of weeks here to make progress” or else, they risk McLaurin holding out during training camp.

Daniels found a great connection with McLaurin. The rookie quarterback knew McLaurin would always make the plays needed for the Commanders to win football games. He must be despertate that both sides get to an agreement, but the report is not encouraging.

McLaurin will have a market if nothing happens

All teams want elite weapons. Not all can get them, but most would at least attempt to land a guy like McLaurin. In the end, ‘Scary’ Terry is in his prime at 29 years old. He will turn 30 after Week 2, but he has shown no signs of slowing down at all.

He is fresh off a 1,096-yard season where he also got a career-high 13 touchdowns. He was a Pro Bowler and an All-Pro second team player, meaning he is in the elite club of the NFL. If McLaurin and the Commanders can’t figure it out, you can expect lots of teams to test the waters trying to land the wideout services.

If McLaurin leaves, the Commanders have to do something

While the Commanders landed Deebo Samuel to help out on the receiver end, it’s not enough if McLaurin leaves or holds out. Samuel is just a year younger but he is nowhere near ‘Scary’ Terry’s level, McLaurin has never had less than 919 receiving yards in his career. Samuel has only surpassed that number once. While he is a good player, he won’t be the one able to just replace McLaurin.

The rest of the depth chart is good but again, not on McLaurin’s level. Noah Brown is a good rotational receiver but he won’t become CeeDee Lamb overnight. Luke McCaffrey is more of a slot receiver and Michael Gallup is past his prime. If they don’t want to pay McLaurin, they better have an elite plan B to apeace the waters.
