While many eyes have focused on Justin Herbert and the offense, the Los Angeles Chargers are looking to be a complete, ready-to-go team for this NFL season under Jim Harbaugh. That obviously includes having playmakers on defense. One particular player had a great 2024 season but says that he’s just getting started.

Daiyan Henley had his first year as a starter last season and he ended up having 147 tackles, leading the team. One could assume a player who just did that would be at least content, but Henley is a man on a mission. Per the team website, Henley stated, “it’s a process, and I’m not ever trying to be stagnant”.

The linebacker added “last year was last year, it is what it is. I can improve. There’s so much more for me out there.” This kind of mentality must feel amazing for Jim Harbaugh and his staff, which is always looking to forge character in their players.

The Chargers defense has talent everywhere

Besides Henley, the Chargers have a lot of talent on the defensive side of the ball. Even after losing Joey Bosa, who was a team captain, L.A. should have all the confidence in the world to believe they have a top unit in the NFL.

Edge rusher Khalil Mack is still there. Mack will have 34 years of age when the season comes around but has made the Pro Bowl in each of his three campaigns with the Chargers. On the secondary, safety Derwin James is one of the league’s best.

The Chargers are looking to defy the odds

When talking about the Chargers, you talk about a team that has had lots of good rosters and players. However, they have never been able to get over the hump. Playing in the AFC West, Jim Harbaugh will try to coach them to their first divisional title since 2009.

The playoffs present another debt for the Chargers. Their last win was in the 2018 season when they beat the Baltimore Ravens. After that, it’s been 6 seasons without a win when it matters most. Harbaugh has a history of success so the hopes are on him to coach this team into a new day where the playoffs are not a losing scenario for the team.
