The stage is set — there’s no more room for experiments. A new NFL season is just around the corner, and the San Francisco 49ers are looking to return to the spotlight. Head coach Kyle Shanahan is placing his trust in Brock Purdy and company to deliver for the Bay Area starting in Week 1.

Having a healthy and competitive roster is essential for any team looking to at least become a contender in the NFC West. The return of key pieces could be one of the biggest factors in helping the quarterback elevate his game to the next level.

Veteran wide receiver Jauan Jennings has been dealing with a calf injury that kept him from fully participating in the team’s most recent sessions. Still, Shanahan told reporters he’s optimistic Jennings will be ready to go when the 49ers take the field at Lumen Field on September 7.

“I mean, if it doesn’t heal, yes,” the head coach said, via 49ersWebzone.com. “But I expect him to be back. I think he should be back from it, but you never know with calves.”

What injury did Jennings suffer?

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings has been sidelined with a persistent calf injury, an issue that has kept him out of training camp practices. The injury, which he first sustained in the offseason, has caused him to miss a significant portion of the preseason. While there is no official timetable for his return, there’s a chance he could be back on the field for the team’s Week 1 matchup.

Cowing, another receiver on San Francisco’s roster, re-injured his hamstring, putting his immediate future with the team on hold. According to the head coach, it’s expected he won’t see playing time on the field for several weeks.

“A while,” Shanahan said. “Yeah, he pulled it fully. It was the same one, so I think they told me like six weeks to start.”
