The latest NFL Draft proved to be highly positive for the Green Bay Packers, as the team acquired young talent from the college ranks. Matthew Golden arrives at Lambeau Field to provide Jordan Love with a new offensive weapon, and he’s already getting excited about this next chapter in his career.
The former Texas Longhorns player, who had been a key ally of Quinn Ewers up until last season, was selected in the first round with the 23rd overall pick—a move that caught the attention of many across the NFL world.
In recent statements to the press, published by CBS Sports, Golden spoke about this new chapter in his career, expressing that he feels comfortable in Wisconsin and promising, among other things, to give his all in pursuit of achieving great things.
“I’m starting to realize Green Bay is not too big,” he said. “A lot of people are gonna recognize me. But it’s a blessing just to be able to be around people that care about you and can see you. So for me, it’s just being able to show my face and show that I love being here. I’m ready to put my best foot forward and go out there and play ball.“

Wide Receiver Matthew Golden of Texas poses after being selected twenty-third overall pick by the Green Bay Packers during the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft at Lambeau Field on April 24, 2025 in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Golden’s relationship with Savion Williams
Golden’s arrival to the Packers wasn’t the only one in this year’s draft—especially at his position. Though selected a bit later, Savion Williams also made the jump to the NFL, joining Matt LaFleur’s Green Bay squad as a new addition to the roster.
Both Golden and Williams will enter their rookie season sharing a roster spot in Wisconsin, and while they’ll have to compete for a starting role, the former Longhorn revealed that their relationship goes beyond football.
“Me and Savion Williams went fishing yesterday,” Golden said to local reporters. “We went up to the flea market and we went to some other place. The people in there, they were just welcoming, just excited to have us here. You can definitely tell the energy that Green Bay has, man. It’s truly a special place to be.”
