The San Francisco 49ers are already laying the groundwork for another Super Bowl run, making key offseason moves to stay competitive at the highest level. One of the most significant? Locking down their quarterback. Brock Purdy, the once-overlooked final pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, is now the face of the franchise—and the holder of one of the league’s richest contracts.
Purdy has far exceeded expectations since entering the league as the 262nd overall pick. In just three years, he’s gone from “Mr. Irrelevant” to a Pro Bowl quarterback and the leader of one of the NFL’s elite teams. And now, with a five-year, $265 million contract extension in hand, he’s officially one of the highest-paid players in the league.
With the new deal comes heightened expectations. But Purdy insists the pressure has always been there, and he’s not letting the spotlight shift his approach. “Yes and no,” Purdy told NBC Sports Bay Area.
“Obviously, the organization is putting a lot of their trust and faith in me to go out and perform and win games, but I’ve proven that before. That’s what I’ve done here. For me, it excites me that they put their faith and trust in me to do that.”

Purdy stays grounded amid big payday
Despite the life-changing numbers attached to his extension, Purdy is keeping his focus. Where others might let success breed arrogance, the 24-year-old maintains the same steady demeanor that’s defined his rise.

“I don’t think my mindset will change — with how I get ready for a game or how I approach the moment — just because I get paid more,” he said. “I think I’m going to continue to have the same mindset of preparing, putting my team in the best position to win, and executing. I’ve done that at a high level for the past three years, and I plan to keep doing it.”
Purdy’s resume already packed with milestones
In 40 regular-season games — 36 as a starter — Purdy has already guided the 49ers to two NFC Championships and a Super Bowl appearance. His 2023 campaign was his most efficient yet, leading the NFL in passer rating (113.0), QBR (72.8), and yards per completion (13.9).
Purdy’s regular-season record (23-13) and postseason mark (4-2) compare favorably to most quarterbacks taken higher in the draft. He’s also earned the respect of the locker room, becoming a team captain by just his second season — a testament to both his leadership and performance.
