NFL News: After Will Howard, Mike Tomlin and Steelers lose another key player with season-ending injury

The Pittsburgh Steelers' training camp has taken another brutal turn. Just days after losing quarterback Will Howard for the preseason, the team has now suffered a second major blow with another key player ruled out for the entire 2025 season.

Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers have had a rough stretch of days in training camp. Will Howard is out for the entire preseason due to a fractured bone in his throwing hand, which makes Mason Rudolph the clear favorite to be the backup.

Meanwhile, Aaron Rodgers continues to impress insiders and fans in Latrobe. It’s an offense that shows a lot of promise with names like DK Metcalf, Jonnu Smith, Jaylen Warren and Pat Freiermuth.

However, the true pillar of this team for a Super Bowl run is the defense. T.J. Watt, Cam Heyward, Alex Highsmith, Patrick Queen, Darius Slay, Joey Porter, and Jalen Ramsey make up a star-studded unit. The big concern could be injuries.

Who got injured with Steelers?

Dean Lowry confirmed that he is out for the entire 2025 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers after suffering an ACL injury. The defensive tackle shared the devastating news in an emotional post on his official Instagram account.

“During a training camp practice last week, I sustained an ACL injury that will likely end my season. Hard to comprehend the thoughts and emotions that I have felt since then. I’m heartbroken as I won’t get to fully experience the highs and lows of an NFL season with a group I love going to work with. The risks associated with this game and the unique aspect of a football team are what make this sport like no other. I’m completely resolved to turn this negative into a positive with gratitude each step of the way.”
