Terry McLaurin has requested to leave the Washington Commanders, but the team doesn’t seem willing to let their wide receiver go. In this scenario, the clock keeps ticking for a contract extension to be reached.

Since the player expressed his desire to leave, trade rumors have erupted, with the Pittsburgh Steelers emerging as a possible destination. In fact, several reports have confirmed that general manager Omar Khan inquired about McLaurin’s situation, but the response he received was negative.

After a spectacular 2024 season for Jayden Daniels, the Commanders are seen by many experts as Super Bowl contenders, following their trip to the NFC Championship Game in head coach Dan Quinn’s first year.

Is Terry McLaurin a free agent now?

No. Terry McLaurin is not a free agent now, but being in the final year of his contract, he wants a new deal that would place him among the highest-paid wide receivers in the league.

In an important decision that gives hope to Washington fans, the Commanders announced that they have activated McLaurin off the active/physically unable to perform list (PUP list).

Despite this, head coach Dan Quinn said that it has no impact on the contract talks. “From the medical side, contract, it’s definitely separate. This is about him getting ready to play which is honestly awesome. That’s good news. It’s really important. That’ll begin like the return to play process for him. We’ve got a real process in our return to play that we believe in. We know it works and we’ll hit all those steps as well. Steps getting closer to return to being on the field.”
