Terry McLaurin has had a front-row seat to several star wide receivers signing massive contract extensions in recent months. Meanwhile, the Washington Commanders have yet to make a significant offer to the most important offensive player Jayden Daniels needs in order to compete for a championship.
This offseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers brought in DK Metcalf on a four-year, 150 million extension, and the Bengals gave new contracts to JaâMarr Chase and Tee Higgins.
Last year, Justin Jefferson reset the market for the position with the Minnesota Vikings, and as a result, CeeDee Lamb also received a big paycheck from the Dallas Cowboys. In all the cases mentioned, thereâs one constant: $30 million per season is the new benchmark for any star player at wide receiver.
Will Terry McLaurin sign a contract extension with Commanders?
Terry McLaurin has not signed a contract extension with the Washington Commanders and, due to the teamâs apparent lack of initiative, the wide receiver has decided not to report to training camp.
Obviously, this is a pressure tactic to get general manager Adam Peters to finally put an offer on the table for McLaurin worth at least $30 million per season. The player wonât accept anything less, considering the current state of the market.

Is Terry McLaurin a free agent?
No. Terry McLaurin is not a free agent, but the wide receiver is entering the final year of his contract with Washington. Thatâs why, if the Commanders donât reach an agreement, the player could test free agency in 2026.
McLaurin has had five consecutive seasons with at least 1,000 yards, and during the 2024 season, he was one of the main reasons Jayden Daniels shined as a rookie, leading the Commanders all the way to the NFC Championship game.
