Jerry Jones understands that the Dallas Cowboys are in the midst of a rebuild, but if thereâs one thing the franchise owner is clear on, itâs that Dak Prescott will be the starting quarterback for the 2025 NFL season. However, in the middle of the draft, he jumped into the debate for that position and was encouraged to talk about the non-selection of Shedeur Sanders by teams like the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Steelers are known to be looking for a starting quarterback after last seasonâs poor performance and the void left at the position. Interest in Aaron Rodgers is getting closer and closer to materializing into an arrival, but the Pittsburgh franchise was expected to make a move in the draft to bring in a potential QB1.
Leading up to Round 1, Sanders was shown to be one of the most coveted prospects. However, despite the polls, neither the Steelers nor any other franchise selected him in the first two rounds. The situation comes as a surprise to Jones, who has issued a warning to the rest of the leagueâs teams about the former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback.
Jerry Jones speaks to the rest of the teams about Sanders
âI know where the character is there, and it is great character. If (the rest of NFL teams) calls come my way, they will get firsthand knowledge of my life with him over the last 20 years. Iâm a big person about the character of the Sanders family,â warned owner Jones at a press conference after seeing that none of the franchises had selected Shedeur.

The relationship between Jones and the Sanders family
The relationship between Jerry Jones and the Sanders family goes back a long way. During Deion Sandersâ successful stint with the Cowboys in the 1990s, Jones always showed great admiration for both his talent and his leadership in the locker room. That historic connection has transcended generations, as Jerry is now also closely following Shedeurâs career, with a special interest in his future in the NFL.

Does Sanders have a chance to be drafted by the Cowboys?
As the hours go by, no franchise has shown a direct intention to select Sanders. However, even though he admitted to considering it, Jones was clear when giving his opinion about drafting Deionâs son. âWe thought and evaluated him extremely high in this draft, but we obviously have Dak [Prescott]. I have an edge, I know what winner he has in his bloodline (Sanders),â Jones said.
