The Houston Texans are still preparing for the 2025 NFL season, and head coach DeMeco Ryans received great news with the confirmation of a major contract extension for one of quarterback CJ Stroud’s key teammates for the upcoming campaign.
Stroud will be the leader on the field, guiding the Texans in their quest to reach the playoffs again in his third season as a pro. In 2024, the Houston franchise had a remarkable year but fell in the Divisional Round against the Kansas City Chiefs. Now, 2025 presents an opportunity to build on that performance.
In line with that goal, the Texans secured the return of a key player. Safety Jalen Pitre agreed to a three-year extension worth $39 million, with more than $29 million guaranteed. The information was confirmed by NFL insider Ian Rapoport.
Pitre’s impact on the Texans
Pitre is set to play his fourth consecutive year in Houston, where he arrived in 2022 as a second-round draft pick. His growing importance on the team has led him to appear in 46 games between the regular season and playoffs, gradually becoming a key piece for head coach Ryans.

Last season, Pitre started 12 games in the regular season and recorded a total of 65 tackles. His continued presence, along with stars like Stroud, makes the Texans a team that will rely on its young talent heading into the upcoming edition of the league.

Texans had already secured another key player on defense
Pitre’s extension follows another deal agreed to by the Texans earlier this year, strengthening that area of the field. At the beginning of the year, the Houston franchise secured cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. to an extension. He was a first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
