With the free agency market open, the Miami Dolphins have decided to strengthen Tua Tagovailoa’s offense, signing a new running back following the departure of Raheem Mostert.
The Dolphins didn’t have the 2024 NFL season they were hoping for. The AFC East club struggled with multiple injuries, which significantly impacted their performance throughout the campaign.
Tua Tagovailoa’s concussion in Week 2 forced him to miss four games, and the quarterback was never quite able to regain his best form. Now, the Dolphins are determined to turn things around in 2025, making moves to provide Tagovailoa with more weapons.
Dolphins add a new running back to support Tua Tagovailoa
The Dolphins know they must have an outstanding 2025 season. After falling short of expectations last year, the team’s front office is making key moves in free agency to build a more competitive roster.
Miami’s offense has long been its biggest strength, but injuries last season prevented the unit from performing at its full potential. While Tua Tagovailoa’s absence was the most significant, other key players also struggled with health issues.

Now, the Dolphins are focused on a much better 2025 campaign. The front office believes they are just a few pieces away from success, and the first major addition to the offense has arrived.
On Thursday, the Dolphins signed Alexander Mattison. While the details of his contract have yet to be revealed, reports suggest he inked a one-year deal. He is set to replace Mostert, who joined the Raiders.
Mattison played the 2024 season with the Raiders, rushing for 420 yards on 132 carries and scoring four touchdowns. He is expected to compete with Jaylen Wright for the RB2 role.
