With Tom Brady as a minority owner, the Las Vegas Raiders want to put Pete Carroll in a position to succeed in the 2025 NFL season. That’s why, after trading for Geno Smith, the team made a move for a player who shone with Tua Tagovailoa on the Miami Dolphins.
On Thursday, Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports reported that running back Raheem Mostert is signing a one-year deal to play for the Raiders in the 2025 NFL season. According to Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network, Mostert told him the deal is worth $2.1 million.
The Purdue product, who will turn 33 in April, hit the open market after being released by the Dolphins in February. Mostert spent three seasons in Miami, playing a key role in Tagovailoa’s offense in 2023.
Mostert’s fantastic 2023 season with Dolphins
That year, the seasoned running back made the Pro Bowl after recording 1,012 rushing yards and a league-leading 21 total touchdowns, apart from catching 25 passes for 175 yards and three touchdowns. With Mostert on fire, Tua felt comfortable running the ball in the 2023 NFL season.

Tua Tagovailoa #1 of the Miami Dolphins hands the ball off to teammate Raheem Mostert #31 during the third quarter against the Las Vegas Raiders at Hard Rock Stadium on November 19, 2023 in Miami Gardens, Florida.
Mostert’s production, however, declined big time in 2024, when he had 85 carries for just 278 rushing yards and two touchdowns along with 19 receptions for 161 yards. The Raiders, however, feel that he still has enough left in the tank.

A reunion in Las Vegas
With a mobile quarterback like Smith, Las Vegas is expected to lean on the running game in Carroll’s first year at the helm. This move could also be explained by Mostert’s special connection with Raiders offensive coordinator Chip Kelly.
Kelly, who’s returning to the NFL after an eight-year hiatus, was the Philadelphia Eagles head coach when the team signed Mostert as an undrafted free agent in 2020. Only a year later, Kelly took Mostert with him to the San Francisco 49ers. Now, he’s once again recruiting the running back for a Raiders team aiming to reach new heights under Carroll. Brady and the ownership will be hoping to see progress this year.
