Lamar Jackson remains in his relentless pursuit of a Super Bowl title, after previous attempts have fallen short. In an effort to bolster their chances, the Baltimore Ravens used this year’s Draft to select a rising star out of the NCAAF—one who has already made a bold promise to protect his quarterback heading into the upcoming NFL season.
Emery Jones, the standout offensive tackle from LSU, had the honor of being selected by the Ravens in the latest NFL Draft. He’ll now begin his professional journey under the guidance of head coach John Harbaugh.
Shortly after being selected, the talented lineman received a call from general manager Eric DeCosta. It was during that conversation that Jones made a significant promise about what’s to come.
“That’d be an honor. I’ll put it all on the line for him,” Jones didn’t hesitate to respond when asked by DeCosta what it feels like to block for Lamar Jackson.

Emery Jones Jr. #OL21 of LSU participates in a drill during the NFL Scouting Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium on March 02, 2025 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
It’s worth noting that Jones was selected by the Ravens with the 91st overall pick in the third round of the NFL Draft. The team is counting on his talent to provide added protection for the league’s two-time MVP.

DeCosta’s reflection on Jones
Of course, when selecting a player for the upcoming season, many factors are considered, in addition to the player’s on-field performance. This is something Eric DeCosta made clear about Emery Jones.
“He’s another guy who’s got big goals, big aspirations, and all these guys, it’s just so meaningful,” DeCosta told reporters Friday night after picking Jones. “You get on the phone with them afterwards, and they’re all taking their journey. They’re all fighting their fight. They’re trying to overcome and make their dreams come true, and these guys are a very highly-motivated group of guys.”
Additionally, head coach John Harbaugh stated that selecting Jones was a smart move, citing the versatility the former LSU standout brings to the team. “No, we see him as a possible swing guy,” he told reporters.
“That’s why I thought the pick was so good that Eric made. He’s got the chance to be a swing backup tackle for us right away, but he also has a chance to go in there at guard and play. So, we’re going to put him in at guard too, see how he does, and just get a feel for him once he starts practicing, get a feel for where he can help us, and we think he play guard and tackle.”
