Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers envision an explosive offense with Aaron Rodgers as the leader. Although the arrival of DK Metcalf sparked rumors about a trade to let go of George Pickens, general manager Omar Khan has denied that possibility.
âYou need more than one receiver in this league and weâre fortunate that we have George (Pickens) and Calvin (Austin). Weâre also excited about what Roman (Wilson) is going to be able to do for us.â
If the Steelers keep Pickens and manage to sign Rodgers, that unit could have Super Bowl caliber in Arthur Smithâs second year as the teamâs offensive coordinator. During the latest ownersâ meeting, Tomlin was also firm in stating that he wants George on the roster despite the rumors.
Will Steelers give George Pickens a contract extension?
George Pickens will enter the final year of his contract with the Steelers, and the team has yet to show signs of working on an extension for the star wide receiver. However, at least for 2025, they want to keep him to play alongside DK Metcalf.
The big decision will come in 2026 when Pickens can test the market as a free agent. In that scenario, the Steelers would be in a very difficult situation, as it would be hard to pay more than $30 million per year to two players at the same position.
