Mike Tomlin confirmed that four of his stars will not play against the Carolina Panthers in the final preseason game for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Among those names is Aaron Rodgers.

ā€œAs far as playtime, there’s really four guys that I’m not considering playing. Cam Heyward, T.J. Watt, Aaron Rodgers and DK Metcalf. Everyone else is under consideration. They’re preparing as if they’re going to play. All healthy outside of the four that I mentioned are preparing and scheduled to play.ā€

Tomlin’s decision has sparked major controversy since Rodgers is 41 years old and hasn’t taken a single snap with the Steelers in a new offensive scheme led by Arthur Smith. In addition, he hasn’t had playing time with teammates like DK Metcalf or Jonnu Smith to improve synchronization on routes and other aspects of the game.

Is Aaron Rodgers playing with Steelers against Panthers in preseason?

Aaron Rodgers will not play in the Steelers’ final preseason game against the Carolina Panthers. That means his debut will come on September 7 in Week 1, when Pittsburgh visits the Jets to kick off the 2025 regular season.

This was Tomlin’s response when asked if he was concerned about his starting quarterback not playing at all in the preseason. ā€œI’m comfortable with what I’m seeing out here. Obviously, if I weren’t, I would be playing him.ā€
