As in previous years, head coach Mike Tomlin is going through an offseason without a clear starting quarterback. This time, Aaron Rodgers has an offer on the table to be the star leading the Pittsburgh Steelers on the field during the 2025 NFL season, but his delay in responding is creating confusion.
The big question hanging over Pittsburgh is when Rodgers will respond. This saga has dragged on for days, and while both sides seem destined to reach an agreement, the truth is that A-Rod has yet to make his stance clear. Tomlin, growing increasingly impatient, continues to wait.
Time is ticking and the NFL Draft is approaching. It’s still unclear whether Rodgers will give his final answer before April 24 (the first day of the draft) or sometime afterward. A precedent was set in 2023, when he announced his decision to join the New York Jets later that April. This time around, however, the situation seems different.
When will Rodgers decide on his future?
To answer this question, it’s valid to mention information from NFL insider Adam Schefter, who stated on his podcast that Rodgers could give his final answer next week, potentially signing before the Steelers‘ voluntary offseason workouts begin.

Aaron Rodgers, the former quarterback of the New York Jets.
“If Aaron Rodgers decides that he wants to play in Pittsburgh with new teammates, new receivers, new coaches, a new offense and a new city, I would think that he would want to be there boots on the ground from day one of the offseason program so he could be on the field,” Schefter reported in The Adam Schefter Podcast.

“Now, he could put this off more and wait longer, sure, he could do that. It’s not like it’s a hard deadline. But, if you’re going to be going into a new situation, don’t you want to give yourself the best chance to get acclimated to everybody and everything within your power when the offseason program begins,” he said.
A complex situation for Tomlin
Rodgers’ delay is only making things more complicated for Tomlin and the rest of the Steelers. The organization still doesn’t have a starting quarterback, and at this point, they would be entering training camp without a fully defined tactical plan. At the same time, Pittsburgh is considering the possibility of resolving the situation by taking advantage of the draft. The next few hours will be crucial.
