The Tennessee Titans are entering what they hope is a new era for the franchise. Not so long ago, they were a consistent playoff team in the NFL, even going to the AFC Championship Game in 2019. Now, they have a new front office, new head coach, new quarterback… However, one key player remains and he is sure Cam Ward will turn heads with his play at quarterback.

Titans’ defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons appeared on Good Morning Football where he criticized the media for not giving Tennessee the attention it deserves. Also, he spoke about newly-drafted QB, Cam Ward.

“First off, I think that our team (Titans) never gets the respect and attention we need,” Simmons said. I’ve never seen the No. 1 pick overall never get the respect and, quite frankly, the attention that he deserves.” He then added Ward is “legit” and “I think that’s a chip on his shoulder. You could tell by the way he goes about his business — his swagger, his demeanor — this gonna be one of the ones that I’m excited to see.”

Cam Ward gets the offense, Simmons leads the defense

A three-time Pro Bowler, Jeffery Simmons es an absolute tank as defensive tackle. Simmons is literally a disruptive force that will command the defensive line. While his sacks are not getting to double digits, the way he gets tackles for loss and stops the run are something to admire.

Tennesse actually had a decent defensive season in 2024 and Simmons was key for that to happen. As Cam Ward takes the lead under center, Simmons has to lead the defense to give their rookie signal-caller the chance to win football games.

The start of the season is not that kind to Tennessee

When you have a rookie QB, the start of the season is also used to get into NFL rhythm, which is not easy. For the Titans the first four weeks will be hard. It’s going to be a tough debut month for Ward.

  • Week 1: at Denver
  • Week 2: vs. Rams
  • Week 3: vs. Colts
  • Week 4: at Houston

Two tough games against explosive teams and then two divisional games, including a visit to the current AFC South champions in the Texans. Ward better be ready for war from the get-go, if not, the season can turn upside down real quick.
