Terry McLaurin wants to continue playing for the Washington Commanders. However, the NFC East club may not be entirely committed to meeting the contract demands the wide receiver has now set.
Thereâs no doubt the Commanders have made significant strides in recent years. Amid ownership changes, coaching adjustments, and roster moves, the team has become a more competitive force and is now viewed as a legitimate contender in the NFC.
Unfortunately, a major challenge looms on the horizon. Terry McLaurinâthe teamâs star wide receiverâis entering the final year of his current deal, and securing an extension may be difficult given the demands heâs reportedly made.
Terry McLaurin makes his contract expectations clear to the Commanders
Despite all the recent changes in Washington, Terry McLaurin has remained one of the teamâs most consistent and valuable players. The wideout has been a key figure in the offense and has developed a promising connection with quarterback Jayden Daniels.

After years of searching for a reliable wide receiver, the Commanders found one in McLaurin. However, his future with the franchise is uncertain as contract talks stall.
McLaurin is in the final year of the extension he signed back in 2022. Heâs now seeking a new deal before the 2025 season beginsâbut the price tag may be too high for Washington.
According to Albert Breer, McLaurin is eyeing an extension that would pay him $30 million per year, placing him among the top 10 highest-paid wide receivers in the NFL. However, reports indicate that the Commanders are currently far from meeting that number.

Jayden Daniels #5 of the Washington Commanders celebrates with Terry McLaurin #17 after defeating the Detroit Lions 45-31 in the NFC Divisional Playoff at Ford Field on January 18, 2025 in Detroit, Michigan.
âI donât think itâs in a great place right now,â Albert Breer said this week on 106.7 The Fan. âIf youâre Terry McLaurin, you look at it and youâre saying donât even come to me with anything that doesnât start with a three [30] per year. I think itâs fair for him to ask for something in that range just based on where the market has gone. I think they will eventually get something done.â
What happens if the Commanders donât extend McLaurinâs contract?
Terry McLaurin may be heading into his final season with the Commanders. If no extension is reached, he would become a free agent in 2026.

Next year, McLaurin will turn 31, which could be a key factor in Washingtonâs hesitance to offer a long-term, high-value deal. The franchise may prefer to begin reshaping its wide receiver corps after the upcoming seasonâespecially with a young quarterback like Daniels leading the offense.
