The Houston Texans aim to be serious contenders in the AFC South, and for that to happen, head coach DeMeco Ryans will need his entire roster performing at its peak. With C.J. Stroud’s talent at the core, the former Buckeye leads an offense eager to make a statement—and wide receiver Nico Collins is ready to step up as a mentor for the team’s new wave of offensive weapons the next NFL season.
This season, the Texans have suffered the notable losses of both Robert Woods and Stefon Diggs, leaving Collins as one of the few experienced wide receivers remaining on the roster.
In the latest draft, Ryans and his staff made the smart decision to bring in both Jaylin Noel and Jayden Higgins—two promising rookies who will look to the former Michigan Wolverines standout, as a key mentor during their transition to the league.
“Man, it’s a blessing,” Collins stated via Aaron Wilson of KPRC. “It’s crazy how time flies. It’s a blessing to be in this position, man. It’s only right for me to lead by example. I know they’re gonna push me, I’m gonna push them.

“That’s the only way we can get better and we’re gonna shine on Sundays. So, push each other and let them boys know, let the DBs know what’s up. I can’t wait to join the guys, man. I’m excited to get back with them boys, for sure.”

The new faces in the Texans’ offense
It’s been a busy offseason for the Texans—a team that has been in a rebuilding phase for years but is now aiming to emerge as one of the main contenders in the upcoming season.
C.J. Stroud’s offense underwent one of the most significant overhauls—not just among players, but within DeMeco Ryans’ coaching staff as well. Nick Caley joined the franchise as the new offensive coordinator and will face the challenging task of maximizing the unit’s potential, with a particular focus on developing the wide receiver corps.
The arrival of promising young talent through the draft aims to fill the void left by the departures of veteran receivers like Stefon Diggs and Robert Woods. In addition, the situation surrounding Tank Dell remains uncertain, as the dynamic playmaker continues to recover from a serious injury.
What’s clear is that Houston has serious intentions of being in the title conversation—and to make that a reality, they can’t afford to leave anything to chance heading into the season ahead.
