Tua Tagovailoa teammate ready to step up as Dolphins leader ahead of 2025 NFL season

With the 2025 NFL season starting to get close, the Miami Dolphins need some players to step up. One of them is ready to become a leader on defense while Tua Tagovailoa leads the offense.

The Miami Dolphins have an offensive identity as far as the NFL is concerned. However, football is played on two sides and while Tua Tagovailoa is tasked with producing big plays, one of his teammates is ready to become a role model for the defense.

That guy is Kader Kohou, who will enter his 4th year in the league. The cornerback has been making a name for himself, starting 38 games of 47 played. The team lost safeties Jevon Holland and Jordan Poyer. The Dolphins also lost corners Jalen Ramsey, who went to the Steelers, and Kendall Fuller.

Speaking to Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson, Kohou said, “I have to step up and be leader in the room and show the younger guys how we want our unit to be, just like they did with me.”

He also paid tribute to his past teammates. “Jalen Ramsey, X [Xavien Howard], Jordan Poyer showed me the way. You don’t always have to talk; you can lead by example. It’s going to be a challenge. Being the oldest guy in the room, whether you want it or not, is a little weight on your shoulder because you have to show the other guys. It’s not something I’m not prepared for.“

Kader Kohou is not a big name in the NFL yet

Kader Kohou is not a blockbuster name in the NFL. He is only three years in, hasn’t made a Pro Bowl, not even being a full-time starter. However, you don’t have to be an elite talent to be a great leader.

He won’t be alone. The team also brought back top-tier safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, who does carry a big-time name and has been a leader in the past will be there, battling alongside Kohou in the secondary.

The Dolphins are looking to fulfill expectations

Since Mike McDaniel arrived as head coach, the expectations have been high for the Dolphins. Unfortunately for them, they haven’t been able to go far. This year, the spotlight is on them once again.

There are big names on the scope, such as McDaniel and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. If this season goes array, those two names might be looking for a new place to go.
