The Ottawa Senators had a strong NHL season led by Brady Tkachuk, but unfortunately, their dream of reaching the Stanley Cup Finals came to an end after falling to the Maple Leafs in the series. Looking ahead, securing key players is crucial—and the franchise took an important first step in that direction in recent hours.
The latest news confirms an agreement between Claude Giroux and the Canadian franchise, ensuring that the veteran forward will continue wearing a Senators jersey for at least one more season.
According to NHL.com, the veteran forward has a base salary of $2 million, with performance bonuses that could bring the total value up to $4.75 million. Without a doubt, it’s great news for Tkachuk and company.
At 37 years old, the veteran forward tallied 50 points over 81 regular-season games with the Senators, recording 15 goals and 35 assists. He also contributed five points—one goal and four assists—across six games in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Steve Staios, the team’s General Manager, made his position clear regarding Giroux’s presence moving forward. “Claude brings veteran leadership and a competitive edge to our group and has been a consistent presence on and off the ice,” he said. “We are excited to bring him back next season.”
One more shot in Ottawa
Months ago, Claude Giroux and his teammates were gearing up for a new playoff run, while many began to wonder what the future held for the veteran once the NHL season came to an end.
“I knew this question was going to come, but it’s still early,” the former Flyers standout said about his future on May. “I haven’t given any thoughts, haven’t really talked to Steve yet. I love the players, the fans, the city. This year was the most fun I’ve had in a few years, just coming to the rink was a lot of fun. And that locker room, a pretty tight locker room, so a lot of good things.
“I don’t know how many [years I have] left, but I feel like I have a lot left in the tank. Like I said, I’m loving hockey right now, I want to play and I feel like I can be an impact player. So, it’s going to be a big summer for me and for all my teammates too. We had a little taste of it, of playoffs, how it feels and how fun it is, and when you have that little taste, you want to get back into it.”
