The Utah Mammoth are gearing up for their second official season, a major test for the young franchise. To help generate excitement, the NHL shared a projected lineup featuring Clayton Keller and John Marino for the upcoming season—prompting a wave of reactions from fans.
The responses were mixed. While some fans expressed optimism about the potential of the projected lines—especially with Keller paired alongside Logan Cooley and Dylan Guenther—others weren’t quite as convinced. Keller, who scored 30 goals last NHL season (his third straight year hitting that mark), was seen as a clear offensive anchor in the projection.
When asked if this lineup could push the Mammoth into the playoffs, one fan joked, “They might just sneak in if the stars align and their WiFi doesn’t lag during key moments.” Another was more blunt: “Not likely.”
Fan Reactions to the Mammoth’s Projected Lineup
The NHL’s post garnered over 78,000 views and 52 replies, asking fans if the Mammoth—based on that projected lineup—could make a playoff run. Most responded positively, though not all were on board with the current roster.
One fan pointed out a weakness in goal, saying: “They have a solid team. Fourth line is a bit weak, as is goaltending, but they have a good core and I’m sure they’ll make improvements. Young team.”

Hockey analyst Jeremy (@Jaontheplay) offered a more technical critique:
“For an organization that has Daniil But, Caleb Desnoyers, Tij Iginla and Cole Beaudoin, the Mammoth have ZERO reason to have Liam O’Brien in the lineup regularly. Also FWIW I have Simashev playing over Ian Cole as well. Cole was just way too penalized last season.”
