Ahead of a pivotal 2025-26 NHL season, the Colorado Avalanche made more tweaks to their roster. Now, Nathan MacKinnon and the crew will welcome a former Vegas Golden Knights‘ forward, who has signed on a one-year deal.
Trading for Frederik Olofsson didn’t quite work out for the Avalanche during the 2023-24 NHL campaign. However, who says the apple can’t fall far from the tree in this case? Though not related, the two Olofsson forwards in the NHL share a common background in Denver.
As reported by PuckPedia, the Avalanche have signed Victor Olofsson to a one-year, $1.575 million contract. The 30-year-old will be inked to a prove-it type of deal as the Avs vie to chase the organization’s fourth Stanley Cup.
Stats
Victor Olofsson is coming off a 56-game season with the Golden Knights, where he recorded 29 points (15 goals and 14 assists). Though drafted with a seventh-round pick in 2014, the winger didn’t make his NHL debut until the 2018-19 season with the Buffalo Sabres. He spent six campaigns with the organization in upstate New York before joining the one in Sin City as an UFA last summer.

Thanks to his production with the Golden Knights, the Avs handed him a contract which included a pay raise. Olofsson had signed for $1.08 million with Vegas and will now earn around $1.58M with MacKinnon’s Colorado.

Time to take a chance
After the heartbreaking defeat to the Dallas Stars in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, MacKinnon and the Avalanche acknowledge it’s time to kick the board and take chances. Olofsson’s signing is among a series of moves Colorado is putting in place ahead of a crucial season.
In addition to Olofsson, the Avs have recently signed Alex Gagne, a 23-year-old blueliner who’s yet to make his NHL debut. After being drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning, the prospect had never signed his entry level contract with the Bolts. The deadline was due and now the Avs have taken him in.
