Luis Suárez is an important piece of Uruguay’s World Cup hopes, the nation’s all-time leading scorer already has 3 of his team's World Cup qualifying goals. Uruguay will have a tough three game stretch against Peru away and two home games against Bolivia and Ecuador.

Uruguay is fourth in Conmebol qualification and have been rather unconvincing as of late. Head coach Óscar Tabárez is hoping his side can pull off yet another resurgence as has been custom in his over 15 years in charge of the national team. Not only will Luis Suárez be out of the squad, but second all-time leading scorer Edinson Cavani will also be out due to restrictions upon a return from red list countries in the United Kingdom.

Luis Suárez went down with an injury while playing for Atletico Madrid over the weekend and as a result he was pulled out of the national team squad to begin work on coming back from yet another injury to his knee. Here are details of Luis Suárez’s knee injury.

Luis Suárez out for Uruguay because of knee injury

Luis Suárez has already done an MRI scan which “revealed a moderate edema, detected on the posterior part of the player's left knee," Atletico Madrid said in a statement. Suárez is already working on his recovery which is said to be by September 12th for the La Liga match against Espanyol, but the club would not speculate on a return date.

For Luis Suárez it is yet another knee injury which has sidelined him before, but the Uruguayan target man has always come back stronger. Suárez has one goal in three La Liga games this season, still one of the top strikers in the world Suárez will be missed by Uruguay in their next three games.
