Cristiano Ronaldo has tested positive for COVID-19 after playing for the Portuguese national team during the FIFA international window. He is now set to miss the UEFA Nations League match against Sweden later this week and various fixtures for Juventus.

Cristiano Ronaldo is asymptomatic and is now in self-isolating, according to various reports out of Portugal. Ronaldo is the third Portuguese National Team player who tested positive after Anthony Lopes and Jose Fonte also contracted coronavirus and were isolated from the group.

The Portuguese FA revealed the news in a statement stating: 'Cristiano Ronaldo was released from the work of the National Team after a positive test for COVID-19, so he will not face Sweden. The Portuguese international is doing well, without symptoms, and in isolation. Following the positive case, the remaining players underwent new tests this Tuesday morning, all with a negative result, and are available to Fernando Santos for training this afternoon, in Cidade do Futebol.'

Cristiano Ronaldo posed for a picture with his teammates prior to receiving the news

Ronaldo had posed for a picture with his National Team teammates last night which has raised concerns whether more players from the Portuguese national team will test positive in the coming days. The superstar's positive result was met with backlash from pundits who questioned whether important international fixtures should be played during the global pandemic.

Four players of the Peruvian national team, Milan Skriniar, Leo Dubois, Manuel Akanji, Naby Keita, and Amadou Diawara have all tested positive for Covid-19 while on international duty. Ronaldo will most likely now miss various Champions League and Serie A matches while in insolation.
