The US national team will try to win their seventh Gold Cup title when they face Mexico on Sunday, August 1st in the big final. The USMNT will try to seek revenge for last edition final, where Mexico won 1-0 with a late goal from Jonathan Dos Santos.

The USMNT is one of the most prolific teams in the tournament with their six titles, being only behind Mexico’s eight crowns since 1991, when the current Gold Cup format was born. Of course, The Stars and The Stripes will try to close the gap with their Mexican rivals.

As the Gold Cup is considered the main tournament of North America, Central America and the Caribbean, Mexico and the USA are the best teams of the region if we look at the numbers. Here, check out how many times the USMNT has been in the Gold Cup final.

Gold Cup 2021: How many finals the USA have played?

The USA have been in the final eleven times since 1991. They are the team with the most finals played in the history of the tournament. They have won over Honduras (1991), Costa Rica (2002), Panama (2005, 2013), Mexico (2007) and Jamaica (2017).

They have played seven finals against Mexico, but only won in the 2007 edition. The score ended 2-1 with goals from Landon Donovan and Benny Feilhaber. Actually, Landon Donovan is the player with the most Finals played (2002, 2005, 2007, 2011, 2013) and with the most wins (4).

Now, the USMNT wants to emulate their 2007 success. They have a good precedent before this match, as they won their last final against Mexico in the Concacaf Nations League earlier in June. The match ended up 3-2 after Christian Pulisic scored the third in extra time.
