Following a MLS season full of bad results, the Los Angeles Galaxy management decided to part ways with Guillermo Barros Schelotto, cutting their ties with the Argentine boss after one year as the team’s helmsman.

The former Boca Juniors boss couldn’t make things work for this team and the end of his relationship with the Galaxy was imminent. The last result of Barros Schelotto as the boss of the team was a 5-2 loss against Portland Timbers, which prompted the front office to sack him.

Now he’s a free agent again and it remains to be seen what team is going to hire him. But, more importantly, the Galaxy need a new head coach now and the picture doesn’t look that clear for them. That’s why we’re going to take a look at the candidates they could target after this season is over to relive the Galaxy and bring them back to the top of the league.

El Vasco last coached CD Leganés in Spain, taking the reins of the team after Mauricio Pellegrino was fired. He couldn’t do the job and the team was relegated at the end of the 2019/20 season.

Aguirre left the team and has been a free agent ever since. The Mexican manager could be a good option for the Galaxy and some fans are even predicting his arrival to the team once this season is finished for them. This would be his first experience coaching in the MLS, but the Galaxy need to convince him to go to Los Angeles.

Donovan is probably the biggest idol of the LA Galaxy after all the good things the forward did for the team and all the years he wore their colors. He’s currently the co-owner, executive VP and manager of San Diego Loyal SC of the USL Championship, so it would be tricky to see him making a comeback to LA.

Still, he showed his support to the team after news broke that Barros Schelotto was fired given his poor results. Who knows, maybe this man will return to his team as a manager and bring them back to the top of the league.

Miguel Herrera

Miguel Herrera is one of the best Mexican managers in recent history, being the coach of the Mexico national team and having a lot of experience coaching big clubs and facing bigger ones. Although he’s under contract right now, Herrera is a dream for the Galaxy fans and the team could make a push for him in the offseason.

He’s currently America’s boss in the Liga MX, but Herrera is getting more and more fans in Los Angeles after his recent good results with Las Águilas. It remains to be seen if the Galaxy’s management actually considers Herrera, although making him leave America sounds like a mission impossible right now.

A couple of weeks ago, rumors saw the light suggesting Keane was considered a strong candidate to take over from Barros Schelotto in Los Angeles but nothing happened in the end. Now the Argentine tactician is out and the head coaching position is empty.

Keane appears to be the favorite to land in LA and take the reins of the team but only time will tell if he’s actually going to return to the Galaxy, this time as a manager. The former striker played in LA from 2011 through 2016, leaving his mark on the franchise. He has expressed interest in coaching the team and this can be the perfect time to do so.

Steven Gerrard

This is the most unlikely candidate to accept the LA Galaxy job, but Gerrard played with the Galaxy and the team could make a push for him in the future. However, that will be incredibly hard to pull off given how good he’s been doing with Scottish side Rangers across all competitions.

Right now they have gotten unbeaten in 17 matches, winning 15 of those games. He’s going through the sweetest moment of his career and it would be crazy to see him leave Rangers and go coach in America. However, it’s not 100% that he will stay with The Gers for a long time, but most people believe he’d leave Rangers to coach Liverpool, not the Galaxy.
