Declan Rice is on Manchester United’s shortlist, the 22-year-old midfielder has impressed the ManU brass and there have been rumors of United possibly signing Rice, but the Red Devils face competition for his signature. Other reports have indicated that Chelsea and Manchester City are also willing to spend the money for Rice.

With Paul Pogba’s contract still up in the air, and there being rumors that the French World Cup winner wants 400,000 pounds a week if he signs a new deal, United will be in the market either for a replacement or someone to complement Pogba.

According to The Express, by next summer if Rice is to sign with Manchester United and Pogba stays or goes, the club will need to let go of at least two of their midfield squad to make room for Rice and a possible big money Pogba extension. Here are the two players that wouldn't make the cut past this summer.

Donny van de Beek

Donny van de Beek has only played 20 games for Manchester United and only 1 this season, clearly out of favor the former Ajax man would need to be loaned or sold to make room for the pending arrival of Rice. It has been rumored that Everton could make a push for Donny van de Beek.

Nemanja Matić

33-year-old Nemanja Matić has been with United since 2017 and while very experienced, he has played over 100 games with the club, Matić is said to be down the pecking order, despite making 4 appearances this season. Matić’s contract runs out in 2023, so a loan could be a possibility.
