What happens if Spain win, lose or tie vs France today in 2025 UEFA Nations League semifinals?

Spain and France will clash in Stuttgart for the semifinals of the 2025 UEFA Nations League. Both teams are looking for a ticket to the final, in which Portugal awaits after Roberto Martinez’s men defeated Germany 2-1 with goals by Francisco Conceicao and Cristiano Ronaldo. 

The match between Spain and France has been heated up in the lead-up as Lamine Yamal and Ousmane Dembele want to close the season with another trophy. Both players are considered to be frontrunners for the Ballon d’Or, with many considering this match as a key point in the season for both of them. 

Spain, who are the defending champions, come from defeating Netherlands in a penalty shootout after they tied both of their quarter-final matches, 2-2 and 3-3. On the other hand, France also had to find their ticket for the semifinals in the penalty shootout as they came back from a 2-0 loss against Croatia in the first leg.

What happens if Spain beat France? 

If Spain defeat France, they will advance to the final of the UEFA Nations League and have a chance to defend their title against Portugal. It will be their third final in the tournament, after they also ended up runners-up in 2021, losing, precisely, against France.

What happens if Spain and France tie? 

If Spain and France end in a tie during regular time, the game will move into extra time, consisting of two 15-minute periods. If the tie persists, the match will proceed to a penalty shootout to determine who advances to the UEFA Nations League final.

What happens if Spain lose to France? 

If Spain lose to France, Didier Deschamps’ men will be the finalists of the UEFA Nations League and will play against Portugal to define the champions. The final will take place at Allianz Arena in Munich on June 8th. 

Either way, the final will promise an exciting clash. The three teams, Portugal, France and Spain have won a UEFA Nations League title. So, whoever ends up winning the tournament will become the country with the most titles in the history of the competition.
