Giovanni Reyna is one of the USMNT most talented players, the 18-year-old Borussia Dortmund midfielder was having a very promising start to his season with 2 goals in 3 Bundesliga games before going down while on USMNT commitments.

Reyna, who has 4 goals from 9 USMNT caps, is considered by many the future “brain” of the USMNT and Dortmund midfield, much like his father, Claudio Reyna, did for various clubs and the USMNT for many years. Reyna’s evolution has been astonishing, bursting onto the scene in 2020, and despite some ups and downs, Reyna has formed a formidable partnership with Erling Haaland.

In the last round of Concacaf World Cup qualifying, Reyna picked up a hamstring injury that forced him out after the USMNT first game against El Salvador which ended 0-0. Here is an update on Giovanni Reyna’s hamstring injury.

Giovanni Reyna injury update

At the moment Giovanni Reyna continues to be sidelined due to injury as he rehabs his hamstring. According to reports Reyna will not be back until after the international break and it seems he will be back by October 16th against Mainz.

Borussia Dortmund coach Marco Rose stated in regard to Reyna that, “We hope to get Gio Reyna fit for Mainz [Oct. 16] and will also play a test match during the break." Nonetheless it was stated by US Soccer that if Reyna is back to full fitness he could be called into these games if the team needed him, which given the injury status looks remote.
