Manny Pacquiao retires from boxing, looks to become the next president of the Philippines

The 42-year-old boxing legend has announced his retirement from boxing, while also announcing he plans to run for president of his home country of the Philippines.

He’s hanging them up, like Mike Tyson before him, Manny Pacquiao is saying goodbye to boxing. The 42-year-old eight division champion has announced his retirement from the sport on September 19th, 2021. In an interview for Toni Gonzaga studio, Pacquiao stated he was “done” with boxing.

Without question Manny Pacquiao has nothing left to prove in the ring with a remarkable record of 62-8-2, with 39 by way of knockout. Now Manny Pacquiao is getting ready for the biggest fight of his life, the political ring as he also has announced he will run for president of the Philippines.

Manny Pacquiao’s career took him from major fights like victories over Juan Manuel Márquez, Shane Mosley, Ricky Hatton, and Oscar De La Hoya, to the political arena where he intends to run for president of the Philippines in 2022.

Pacquiao is already the country’s most famous person, and in the world of politics it may shock to know that Pacquiao is also a Senator of the Philippines. Pacquiao is a conservative and an evangelical Christian, those ideals have guided his ideas and decision making while in office.

For the most part Pacquiao and current president Rodrigo Duterte had a lineal approach to their political views, but that has changed as of late as Pacquiao believes those in power are corrupt. Stating, ““To government officials who continue to rob government coffers, you will soon find others in jail,” Pacquiao stated as he announced his candidacy. “Your time is up.”

Nonetheless Pacquiao has come under fire in the Western world for some of his views, which include the return of the death penalty. Pacquiao also stated that homosexuals are “worse than animals”, only to later apologize and stating he was opposed to same-sex marriage.
