2021 Russian Grand Prix: Storylines

As usual, the qualifying session was filled with drama, especially for the two title contenders Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen. Hamilton crashed with the wall on pit lane, costing him his good attempt to win the pole position in Q3. It also didn’t help his teammate Valtteri Bottas, who finished qualifying in seventh.

Meanwhile, Verstappen will have a lot of work to do in tomorrow’s race if he wants to maintain his lead in the driver’s championship. The Dutchman had a three-spot grid penalty for his collision with Hamilton at the Italian GP, but a power unit change put him at the back of the grid.

The same thing happened to Charles Leclerc of Ferrari and Nicholas Lafiti, who also will start at the back of the grid for tomorrow’s race. Meanwhile, his teammate Carlos Sainz managed to get a second place in the pole. Lando Norris will have a good chance after his pole position.
