On Wednesday, Carlos Alcaraz defeated Oliver Tarvet in straight sets to advance to the third round at Wimbledon. The World No. 2 remains on track in his pursuit of a third consecutive title on the iconic grass courts and spoke about a key element behind his strong recent form.
“I found the right way to try and enjoy after every match,” Alcaraz said during his post-match press conference, according to the official website of the ATP Tour. “When I step on the court I am just trying to enjoy. It doesn’t matter if I am winning or losing.”
The Spanish superstar went on to explain that this shift in mindset has been central to his hot streak over the past few months. “That is the key for the past two or three months, having a great consecutive winning streak and I am just enjoying,” he said.
That mental approach has clearly paid off. Earlier this year, Alcaraz struggled to meet expectations. Aside from his title run in Rotterdam, the first stretch of the season brought more frustration than satisfaction. But everything changed with the start of the clay season. Alcaraz captured titles in Monte Carlo, Rome, and Roland Garros, and began his grass-court campaign with a championship at Queen’s Club.
