Carlos Alcaraz has showcased an impressive resurgence in his tennis this season after a challenging start to the year. The four-time Grand Slam champion secured his place in the Rome Open final with a commanding win over World No. 9 Lorenzo Musetti. With this victory, Alcaraz surpassed both Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in a remarkable stat line against top players.
The Spaniard has demonstrated exceptional consistency against the ATP’s best, surpassing Federer and Nadal in winning percentage against top-10 opponents since the ATP rankings were introduced in 1973.
Alcaraz now holds a third-place ranking in this category, with an impressive 65% success rate and a 39-21 record against top-10 players. He trails only Novak Djokovic and Boris Becker in this elite statistic.
At just 22 years old, Alcaraz has also reached the finals of six of the nine Masters 1000 events he has entered. Additionally, he became the second-youngest player to advance to the final of all three clay-court Masters 1000 tournaments, second only to his compatriot Rafael Nadal.

Alcaraz secures World No. 2 spot in ATP Rankings
Alcaraz entered the Rome Open as World No. 3 with a chance to climb to No. 2 if he reached the semifinals or if defending champion Alexander Zverev failed to retain his title. After defeating Jack Draper in the quarterfinals, Alcaraz officially claimed the World No. 2 ranking ahead of Roland Garros.

Securing the No. 2 seed is a pivotal milestone for the young Spaniard, as it ensures he won’t face World No. 1 Jannik Sinner until the final in Paris, should both players progress that far.
“I think it’s great being second seed at Roland Garros, knowing I won’t see Jannik before the final if I make it that far. I think it’s great,” Alcaraz shared after his win, via ATP Tour. “Honestly, it wasn’t something I thought about before coming here. The No. 1 wasn’t a goal, but knowing this, it’s a great thing”. Alcaraz will face Sinner in the Rome Open final, after the Italian defeated Tommy Paul in three sets.
