“He was not the Cooper Rush we know. A lot of things went wrong for us out there (Sunday). He can play better than that,” said Jones, who also expects seeing Lance get a fair share of snaps in the rest of the 2024 <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl">NFL</a> season.

<h2>McCarthy, Jones defend Cowboys’ confidence in Rush to replace Prescott</h2>



Speaking to reporters on Monday, McCarthy explained why the Cowboys still believe in Rush to be under center for the ‘Monday Night Football’ matchup against the Houston Texans in Week 11 of the 2024 NFL season.



“Cooper Rush will be the starter this week,” McCarthy said, via CBS Sports. “We’ve got a lot of faith in Cooper. Everybody believes in him. How can you not based off of how he has performed? That fumble and the recovery attempt was off to a rough start… I just felt like he never got into a rhythm.”

<h2>McCarthy also agrees with Jones on giving Lance playing time</h2>



The Cowboys head coach and the owner seem to be aligned on their confidence towards Rush. Still, just like Jones suggested, McCarthy suggested that it won’t be a problem to give Lance more playing time.



“I thought he did some good things, and there are some things that he can learn from. It was good to get better,” McCarthy said. “It’s not (difficult to add Lance packages). Trey actually when he got in there ran the two-minute, no-huddle offense. That wasn’t just things that we put in for him. So he ran the same packages as Dak and Cooper.”

The 2024 <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NFL</a> season has been challenging for the Cowboys. Despite high expectations, they’ve fallen short after nine games and the playoffs seem like a distant dream.



In Week 9, Prescott’s hamstring injury sidelined him, and reports suggest he’ll miss at least four games. This forced the Cowboys to find a temporary replacement.

Losing Prescott dealt a major blow to the Cowboys. Although his season hadn’t been remarkable, he remains their best quarterback and a central figure in their offense.

Following this, Mike McCarthy gave Trey Lance a shot, but he went just 4 of 6 for 21 yards and one interception. Based on these performances, McCarthy has now named his Week 11 starter.

McCarthy confirmed that <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/cooper-rush" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cooper Rush</a> will start against the Houston Texans on Monday’s game. Despite Rush’s low numbers, McCarthy prefers him over Lance for now.

The 31-year-old <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl/nfl-news-dallas-cowboys-lose-dak-prescott-after-big-injury-against-atlanta-falcons">picked up a hamstring injury during the Cowboys’ 27-21 loss</a> to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, and the outlook is far from encouraging. On Monday, NFL media reported <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl/nfl-news-dallas-cowboys-receive-concerning-injury-update-about-dak-prescott">Prescott is expected to spend significant time</a> on the sidelines.



Speaking to reporters a few hours after this injury update, McCarthy failed to provide more clarity on Prescott’s situation, but he did confirm that <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/cooper-rush">Cooper Rush</a> will be the Cowboys’ starting quarterback during Dak’s absence.

“He’s wicked smart, instinctive. He does a great job when he runs the scout team. He just does everything the right way. Excellent pro. There will be plenty of confidence in him,” McCarthy said about Rush, via Jon Machota of The Athletic.

<h2>Cooper Rush’s history with the Cowboys</h2>



Rush knows what is like to start for the Cowboys with Prescott on the sidelines, as he led Dallas to a 4-1 stretch when Dak got injured in the 2022 <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl">NFL</a> season. An undrafted free agent in 2017, Rush spent the first two years of his career in Dallas.



He left for the New York Giants’ practice squad for just a few months before returning to the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/dallas-cowboys">Cowboys</a> in 2020, making his first start in Week 8 of the 2021 NFL season when Prescott picked up a calf injury.
