If Kuminga does join Sacramento, Stiles speculated that it could trigger a domino effect, sending <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/demar-derozan">DeRozan</a> to the Miami Heat. “You just take Terry Rozier, two seconds, and it’s essentially a salary dump,” the Sactown Sports 1140 host reasoned.

In that scenario, the Kings would part ways with a high-level player in DeRozan and receive Rozier plus a pair of second-round draft picks. On the surface, that doesn’t look like a great return, but with Kuminga already in place, it could be part of a larger long-term strategy.



Rozier is under contract for one more season, earning $26,643,031 during the 2025–26 <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba">NBA</a> campaign, according to Spotrac. The Kings would need to carry that cap hit for one year, but after that, they’d gain significant financial flexibility — opening the door to build a roster centered around Kuminga.

<h2>Kings’ stats against the Nets</h2>



Sacramento’s struggles against Brooklyn were evident in their shooting stats. The Kings converted just 9 of 25 three-point attempts and shot a disappointing 64% from the free-throw line (20-of-31), well below their season average.



Domantas Sabonis, a key contributor for the Kings, had another lackluster performance. He managed only 13 points, a steep drop from his usual production. Compared to his previous game, his scoring, field goal attempts, and three-point attempts all declined, raising concerns about his recent form.

Additionally, he addressed the main deficit the Kings faced last season: “Everyone is really locked in this summer. We all know our biggest issue last season was consistency,” Sabonis told ClutchPoints. “I think everyone realizes now the mistakes we made and how we can be better.”

<h2>Sabonis and his foray into screen time</h2>



Sabonis joined LeBron James, Jason Tatum, Anthony Edwards, and Jimmy Butler for a Netflix series that will showcase the everyday lives of these players beyond their club activities.



“As much as everyone wants to say they were in a movie or show, just having this experience with my family and kids made it special,” Sabonis said. “I am excited for my fans to see that when they watch Starting 5.”



When asked about what motivated him to film this documentary alongside NBA stars, the Lithuanian stated: “It was certainly an honor to be a part of a group like that. LeBron, Jayson, Jimmy, and Ant are all the biggest stars, so to be in that grouping is surreal. Doing this for Netflix is huge. For me, it meant a lot to be able to give recognition to the city of Sacramento, the Kings organization, and everything we are building. DeRozan, who has a less-than-stellar record against James, faced him 43 times in the regular season, winning just 12 of those matchups. In the playoffs, the numbers are even more lopsided, with DeRozan only managing two wins out of 14 games.

Jeff Teague, the host of the podcast, also has his own tales of woe when it comes to facing LeBron. Over the course of 26 regular-season games, Teague’s teams managed just five wins against James. In the playoffs, it was even worse, with Teague losing all 12 games he played against LeBron.

The Lakers had other targets in mind, according to Dave McMenamin, including center Jonas Valančiūnas, who signed with the Wizards, James Harden, who stayed with the Clippers, and Klay Thompson, who joined the Mavericks.

DeRozan isn’t a good fit from an offensive standpoint because he’s another non-shooter. Then again, he could be their starting point guard, as he boasts over-average playmaking skills, and we already know what he’s capable of as a scorer. He’d be a nice low-risk/high-reward pickup.



The Heat shouldn’t have to give up a lot to get DeRozan on the final year of his deal, but the Bulls would be wise to target at least one of Nikola Jovic or Jaime Jaquez Jr.

The Los Angeles Lakers were interested in signing him before he joined the Chicago Bulls. Even he admitted that he thought he was heading back home to play in California, but the Russell Westbrook deal pretty much killed all chances of that happening.

A couple of years have gone by, and the desire to come back home hasn’t faded. If anything, the Lakers could use another consistent scorer next to LeBron James and Anthony Davis. However, once again, spacing could be an issue with him on the floor.

According to Sam Amick of The Athletic, DeRozan will be highly coveted. Nonetheless, he would have the Knicks and Miami Heat as preferred destinations if he were to be moved:



“When it comes to possible destinations, the Heat and Knicks are known to be preferable to DeRozan if he winds up getting moved,” Amick Wrote. “Our Jovan Buha revealed recently that the Lakers are interested in DeRozan (and former Laker Alex Caruso) more than LaVine, which makes perfect sense to anyone who remembers how LeBron James courted DeRozan three summers ago.”



<h2>Knicks Haven’t Approached The Bulls</h2>



As of now, the Knicks have yet to make an approach to the Bulls regarding any of their star players, according to team insider Stefan Bondy. Even so, the team is reportedly active in trade talks looking to bolster their roster right now:



“Several reports state that the Bulls are open to moving Zach LaVine and other veterans, like DeMar DeRozan. The Athletic reported that the Knicks would be a desired landing spot for DeRozan. This makes sense as DeRozan also strongly considered signing with New York in the 2021 offseason,” wrote Bondy. “But as of earlier this week, the Knicks hadn’t engaged in any advanced talks with Chicago on any of their players, per SNY sources.”

The Knicks have missed many opportunities to sign star players in free agency, and their current reality is that it might be easier for them to trade for one than to actually convince one to join them at MSG.

“I’ve actually heard that they’re more interested in DeMar DeRozan and Alex Caruso. A.C., he’s the one that got away,” Buha said in an appearance on Hoops Tonight, via Lakers Nation. “Lakers fans, it still bothers them. Inside of the organization, it’s still a very divisive topic. And then DeMar is someone the Lakers have courted for several years now.“



<h2>This could make more sense for the Lakers</h2>



DeRozan could bring not only an upgrade in terms of talent but also more veteran presence in the locker room. The team has good memories from Caruso’s time in LA, where he contributed to the franchise’s 17th NBA championship in 2020.

Besides, the financial factor could make them even more logical targets for the Lakers. While LaVine is due more than $40 million in each of the three seasons remaining on his contract, DeRozan’s deal is up in 2024 and Caruso is making less than $10m in the next two years.

“Both of those guys are on more manageable contracts. Alex has a partial guarantee for next season, DeMar is an expiring contract,” Buha added. “DeMar comes in, he’s that over the top shotmaker that the team seemingly doesn’t really have outside of when LeBron’s jumper is falling. And then Alex Caruso, one of the best point of attack defenders in the league, one of the best perimeter in the league period. We’ve seen the success he’s had next to LeBron and AD in a Lakers jersey, so I think both of those guys make more sense within what the Lakers need. There’s real interest in all three guys, but from what I’ve heard DeMar and Alex are higher on their priority list.”



<h2>Lakers aim to go further than last season</h2>



In Darvin Ham’s first year as head coach, the Lakers built on an unexpected resurgence after the February deadline to make the 2023 Conference Finals. They didn’t have enough firepower to compete against eventual champions Nuggets, but they certainly laid a foundation for this season.

Eversley added: “Let’s see how that plays out and what that looks like going forward. When those conversations take place, we’ll speak about that more when that happens. But we hope he’s back. He’s been an integral part of this program’s success”.
