Furkan (Korkmaz) coming off the bench, at times Shake (Milton) I think can be a better shooter, but you know, he can get hot. We just added Georges (Niang). So I feel like our teams have always been built around his needs.”
“So it was kind of surprising to see,” Embiid said. “I’ll always say that even going back to, I mean the reason we signed Al is (him). We got rid of Jimmy (Butler), which I still think was a mistake, just to make sure that he needed the ball in his hands and that’s the decision they made.”

Most people think that Jokic should win the award this season because of Embiid’s injuries, which is a valid statement. But if we take a look at the numbers, the Sixers’ big man is clearly one step ahead.
Thus far, Embiid is averaging 30.0 points with 11.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.0 steals, 1.4 blocks and 1.2 three-pointers per game on 51/37/81 shooting splits, whereas Jokic averages 26.4 points, 11.0 rebounds, 8.7 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.4 three-pointers per game on 56/41/85.

Evenbefore being drafted in 2014, the center underwent surgery for a broken bone in his right foot which would rule him out for about four or six months. He didn’t even play in that first season in Philadelphia and his recovery had a setback as well.
In August 2015, he had to undergo another surgery which again sidelined him for the entire season. Embiid had to wait two seasons to have his breakthrough in the NBA, two years later since he was drafted. He started in a good way, giving hope to Philadelphia. But bad luck continued after him as at the beginning of 2017 he suffered a torn meniscus which didn’t seem to require surgery at first, but laterMRI revealed he would miss the rest of the campaign.
During asuccessful 2017/18 season, where he was called up to the NBA All-Star game for the first time, an orbital fracture on Embiid’s left eye required surgery and left him out for two weeks, including the first playoff games. On 2018/19, he suffered a sore left knee before having more problems later. Embiid couldn’t play for about14 games and when the playoffs came he had to deal with flu and illness.
